A message from the Chapter President...Dan Erler

Dear Fellow Members,

The new board year has met and has an exciting year planned. We are excited about the events planned for this year and trust you will mark your calendars to participate.

I would like to thank last year’s board for its hard work and great programs to support both HIMSS national and the HOA chapter. I felt the programs were excellent and we hope to hold to the same high standard of quality and educational excellence. I particularly want to thank Sean Roberts for his leadership of the HOA and for taking extra steps for making my transition to President a great experience.

The HOA board goals are set and top on our list for the year is Membership and Event Participation. I set the challenge for all HOA members to sponsor at least one new member this year. To lead by example I have had 4 new members sign up from DP Sciences. Here are some of the specifics we would like to accomplish:

1. Membership – The focus will be on reaching out to and recruiting more members from our local health care organizations, local Universities for recruitment of student members, and promoting our senior and fellow members by spotlighting a member in each of our newsletters. We are also going to continue targeting partnering with groups such as CIO’s, MGMA and Nursing Informatics for some events. On Wednesday, October we are having a membership drive at the Cisco NOW Van.

2. Event Participation – We listen to your responses to plan events. We will send out our annual quick electronic survey to everyone to help us with event planning in January and we will be identifying areas of education based on your responses.

3. Social – You are warmly welcomed to attend the upcoming social on October 23rd at The Grand Falloon, and get to know your board members and give us the opportunity to meet and get to know you.

4. Advocacy – We will alternate putting both Kansas and Missouri advocacy updates in the quarterly newsletters.

5. Financial – The budget is due on October 1st and the annual HIMSS audit is due on October 31st.

6. Marketing – We are planning on attending / exhibiting at the Kansas Hospital Association in annual trade show in November of 2008 and reaching out to KCHIMA.

I am looking forward to seeing you at our annual HOA Social Event at the Granfalloon on the Country Club Plaza from 5:30pm to 8:00pm on October 23rd . Please be sure to share this newsletter with those within your organization and I hope you will encourage participation as you network with peers.

Sincerely,

Dan Erler
HOA Chapter President
